Featuring special guests: Iranian composer Reza Vali and Egyptian pianist Mohamed Shams
American culture is, by definition, an amalgamation of global influences. The broadly defined region of the Near East contributes endless ideas and talent to the ever-changing cultural tapestry of our country. The region is also instrumental to the interests and experiences of Cuatro Puntos. This program will highlight some cultural exchanges which have taken place between Cuatro Puntos and artists of the Near East. We will present works by Iranian-American composer Reza Vali and Israeli-American composer Gilad Cohen. Egyptian composer Mohammad Aly Farag visited Cuatro Puntos in Connecticut in 2015, giving us his Rhapsody. Lastly, Cuatro Puntos' travels to Afghanistan and collaborations with musicians from the greater region have resulted in new works influenced by Afghan and Indian music. Cuatro Puntos will be joined by acclaimed Egyptian pianist Mohamed Shams.
