Violence against Iranian women in the diaspora
Women, as half of the members of the society, sometimes face inequalities and violation of rights. Violence against women is one of the important social issues that can be observed in most countries, even developed and democratic countries, despite the cultural and social progress. This does not happen only in Iran, Afghanistan or Islamic countries.
Former UN Secretary-General Annan Kofi declared in a 2006 report published on the website of the United Nations Development Fund for Women: "Violence against women is a relatively serious problem. At least one in three women around the world is has been beaten, forced to have sex, or has been abused in his lifetime by someone he knows."
What causes oppression of women at the family and even community level? What can bring women from the post of the house to the society and prevent them from despair and frustration? Why are some women silent in the face of oppression? Years of work in the field of law prompted me to tell, without mentioning the name of the client, about the experience of women who have borne the burden of violence for years, but the seal of silence was on their lips. Each of them was a victim of family violence or violence in the community.
Women, some of whom remain silent in the face of all family and social violence and are afraid of protesting and complaining. Many reasons can be listed on this issue, and by studying the behavioral differences, some of those reasons may be found. Men and women have common talents and naturally there are also differences, but these differences are also in people of the same gender, and therefore gender cannot be a criterion and rule for qualifications and positions. Women can succeed in anything they do through education, effort and perseverance. In recent years, our women have made many advances in various social, political and cultural fields, which is a source of pride for Iranian society, but we must not forget that women still have a long way to go.
