For the first time in the UK, this festival will bring together works by Iranian female directors on the theme of women constructing men. This will provide Scottish audiences a unique opportunity to experience Iranian women’s narratives on life in Iran, and be introduced to the works of both veterans and a new generation of female directors.

There is no Opening Ceremony event scheduled for the 2018 Edinburgh Iranian Festival. This season will start with Film Screening at the Filmhouse Cinema, followed by a reception after the first film. There will be live Iranian music at the reception, performed by local musicians. The Iranian Film Season will commence with screening of "Israfil", followed by Q&A with the director, Ida Panahandeh, and the screen writer, Arsalan Amiri.
