The California chapter of the "One Million Signatures Campaign" will present their message and seek public support while celebrating Mehregan 2008. Come and look for our booth inside the "Bazarcheh" and look for the canvas that presents a vision of equality which is displayed in the art center.
Please join us in demanding an end to gender discrimination by signing the Campaign's petition. "We will not be able to change the status quo unless we all participate."
Mehregan is a celebration of the dynamism and flux of changing seasons. Inspired by this dynamic spirit of transformation, we would like to invite you to participate in our ongoing efforts as well as our canvas with its messages written by local community members under the heading "Imagine Equality", we will be reaching out to Mehregan visitors in a variety of ways. We will be performing street theatre scenes highlighting gender issues.
The One Million Signatures Campaign is an independent grassroots movement which was initiated by a large group of women's rights activists in Iran on August 27, 2006 and has since captured the hearts of Iranians both young and old. With its clear message and peaceful approach, the campaign has spread organically to over 20 cities and towns in Iran and has also been welcomed by several immigrant Iranian populations around the world, including in the US, Germany, Kuwait, Cyprus, Italy, Austria, the UK and Sweden. The One Million Signatures Campaign raises awareness through public dissemination of information about discriminatory laws, and seeks to promote social justice through a petition that calls for legal reform. Based entirely on volunteer labor, the movement has refrained from adopting a political agenda and instead presents information about the Iranian legal system in a non-ideological manner.
