Acclaimed by Time Out New York as one of the must-see films at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, the new movie from the recently-arrested Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof (Iron Island) is a mesmerizing fable in which a boatman collects tears from the inhabitants of the white salt islands of Iran’s Lake Urmia. Why he does this is a mystery, but the film’s resolution, according to Time Out, “is devastating…Do not miss it.” Strikingly shot in de-saturated colors, the movie’s visuals “are a continual source of surprise and wonder” (Variety). Ohio premiere. Subtitles. 35mm. 93 min.
