Chautauqua Institution is pleased to welcome JoAnn Falletta as the guest conductor of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra on August 7. Maestro Falletta has been hailed by the New York Times as “…one of the finest conductors of her generation”. Falletta will be leading the CSO at 8:15 in the Amphitheater.
Falletta currently holds the positions of Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. She also held the position of Artistic Advisor to the Honolulu Symphony. Falletta has been praised by the Washington Post as having, “Toscanini’s tight control over ensemble, Walter’s affectionate balancing of inner voices, Stokowski’s gutsy showmanship, and a controlled frenzy worthy of Berstein.”
Falletta has been invited to guest conduct many of the world’s finest symphony orchestras. Highlights of her recent and upcoming guest appearances include the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, featuring a world premiere of Talbot’s Trumpet Concerto with Alison Balsom, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal in Germany, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium and the Shanghai Philharmonic, among others.
Joining Falletta on August 7 is William Wolfram. A versatile recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician, American pianist Wolfram has garnered the respect of musicians and the acclaim of critics across the country. Past appearances include concerts with the San Francisco Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and the Grand Teton Festival Orchestra to name a few.
