Iran has been conducting a covert nuclear program for many years to advance its political ambitions. When these plans were disclosed by international agencies, the Iranian government called them them in the “national interest” to get support from Iranians.
Since many people publicly turned against the government following the contested June 12, 2009 presidential election, the government has used the nuclear issue as a bargaining chip to divert the international attention from Democracy and Human Rights issues in Iran.
