Often contrary to western expectations, Iran currently has a vibrant community of experimental artists. Their work combines age-old themes, derived from traditional Iranian culture, with bold statements about contemporary Islamic society. One constant theme is sexuality – which shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with the Persian art of the past. In this exhibition, five artists from Iran offer radical, no-holds images of the semi-clothed and totally unclothed human body.
