Tehran Without Permission (Iran, 2009), directed by Sepideh Farsi (83 mins.)
Admission is free
This innovative documentary is a portrait of Tehran, shot by cellphone camera in 2008 by the director Sepideh Farsi on her own while traveling around the city. She notes of this experience, “The challenge was to remain unnoticed, in order to shoot as freely as possible, not only to escape the omnipresent surveillance of the authorities, but also to reduce the distance between the one who films and the one who is filmed….”
The screening is presented as part of the Islam Today Film Festival: Stories from the Muslim World organized by the Center for South Asia Studies, the Center for Southeast Asia Studies and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
