A performance by Shirin Mehrbod, a former political prisoner and singer, visiting from Canada

Mehdi Aslani will discuss his recently published prison memoirs, The Crow and the Red Rose ("Kalagh va Gole Sorkh"). This extremely well-written, mesmerizing, memoir is one of the best written accounts of horrors and life in the Islamic Republic prisons.
Shirin Mehrbod composed her first melody in her mind, inside the walls of Islamic Republic prisons, as a way of surviving the long days and five intolerable years of her life. She has been one of the beautiful voices of the Iranian music in diaspora ever since moving to Canada in 1991.
