A timeless and colorful celebration of world music and dance: East Meets West: Music & Dance with members of Quadre, Ballet Afsaneh and Zaryab Ensemble is a swirling kaleidoscope of styles. It’s a once-only meeting of all three groups on the Ashkenaz stage. Rather than three separate acts, the members perform together: Ballet Afsaneh performs dances of the Silk Road to the Persian music of the Zaryab Ensemble and the French horn quartet Quadre. They come together where styles overlap as a deep investigation of common values through music and dance.
The night is divided into two parts, beginning with a set focusing more on music for listening, followed by a dance-intensive portion that includes audience participation. For most of the evening the members of Zaryab and Quadre will play together, French horns and Middle Eastern music! And at times other instrumental combinations will be featured.
Zaryab Ensemble brings a contemporary re-interpretation of Persian traditional roots, melding ancient Persian modal qualities and traditional instruments with modern musical systems. The band features a renowned international cast, specialized in both Persian and Western musical systems, all based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
