with Bahman Nirumand, Amir Sheikhzadegan, Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi, Parviz Piran, Azadeh Kian-Thiébaut, Roswitha Badry, Roja Fazaeli, Tobias Nünlist & Katja Föllmer
Iranian society has changed profoundly since the revolution of 1979. Yet societal change is rooted in processes that date from further back. The different events of this symposium aim to shed light on the changing self-images and worldviews of Iranians since the coup of 1953 as well as the impact of these changes on their value systems. Our main focus is on how Iranians, women and men, have perceived and lived through these changes: What is the role of religion and religiosity? In what ways has the relationship between individual and state changed? Analyses from different scholarly disciplines aim at a more comprehensive understanding of societal change in Iran over the last half-century.
