We are excited to announce that the Amsterdam Initiative for Iranian Studies is launching a reading group. If you find the idea of reading and discussing a book on contemporary Iranian society appealing, join our first informal gathering on Friday, the 27th of January in CREA Cafe (with drinks and snacks). You don't have to be a student or staff of the University of Amsterdam, everyone is welcome! We will use this first gathering to discuss together which books to choose as a starting point for the reading group.
At the moment we have received some suggestions (Persepolis (2003); Nylon Road: A Graphic Memoir of Coming of Age in Iran (2009); Zahra's Paradise (2011); Remembering Akbar: Stories from an Iranian Prison;. Foucault and the Iranian Revolution: Gender and the Seductions of Islamism(2005); Iran Without Borders: Towards a Critique of the Post-colonial State (2016). This is just a suggested list, however, and we very much welcome other titles!
So please join us for drinks and snacks on the 27th to kick off 2017 and our reading group.
