"Behind the Mirror" Nazila E Manesh Live concert Past

Nazila E Manesh (Santur and Compositions) and Morgan Doctor (Percussion)

Nazila E.Manesh, Santur (Persian hammered dulcimer) musician, has been playing the instrument for about 30 years. She completed the Persian repertoire, "Radif" through many years of studying with the masters and researching and comparing the similarities and the differences of the great masters' Radif.

This project "Behind the Mirror" has been inspired by a poem by Hafez, famous Persian 14th century poet.
The idea is to break down the boundaries and create new style, especially in rhythm, while respecting the traditions.
Percussion plays a key role in the project and unlike most traditional accompaniments, in this album rhythm is playing a relatively independent line that meets up with the melody line in a new way. In other words, rhythm has a line that has actually been composed separately, to not exactly match, but rather "suit" the melody.
The project is an experiment on how to introduce traditional Persian repertoire in a rather non-traditional, less formal yet classical new form.
