Iran and Iranian artists at the Nour Festival 2015 Past

Oct 20 to Nov 8, 2015 - London, United Kingdom

The Nour Festival of Arts 2015, dedicated to the best of contemporary arts and culture from the Middle East and North Africa, will run during 3 weeks in London, from 20 October to 8 November, in different venues across the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It's a festival dedicated to the best of contemporary arts and culture from the MENA region. It features different arts forms ranging from theatre, cinema, literature, to dance, music, and even food. There will also be several exhibitions, talks, and workshops. The artists and MENA-lovers taking part will have the opportunity to share their work and views with their London/UK audiences, and to freely address topical themes such as the crisis in Syria, women's rights, exile and identity, etc.

The full programme is available online at: www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/nour.aspx

Events related to Iran or featuring Iranian artists are:

- "Scheherazade's night", 22 October, at The Tabernacle : a unique multicultural evening with a strong female dimension, and a performance mixing comedy, song, dance, poetry and music with a diverse range of female artists from the Middle East, including Iranian artist Roya Arab. More info available at: www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/nour/events/performance2015/scheherazade.aspx

- The workshop "Persian Percussion with Hadi Alizadeh", 7 November, The Ismaili Centre: www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/nour/events/workshops2015/percussion.aspx

- Opera "Silk Moth", 1 November, 20th Century Theatre: Each year an estimated 5,000 women worldwide are murdered by their own families in ‘honour killings’, 12 of them here in the UK. Silk Moth places onstage a Mother. This one-woman performance raises powerful questions: what is her role in this horrific ‘tradition’? Is she a victim, submissive, or coldly complicit? More information available at: www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/nour/events/performance2015/silkmoth.aspx

- The "6th London Iranian Film Festival", 30 October- 7 November, various locations, screenings at various times: www.rbkc.gov.uk/subsites/nour/events/film2015/liff.aspx
