SÂZ speelde reeds verschillende malen in Gent, in het Muzikantenhuis (Dampoortstraat), bij Mizrap (Sluizeken) en natuurlijk ook in De Centrale (caféconcert). Vandaag is SÂZ opnieuw te gast, in een gloednieuwe bezetting en op het podium van de Kelderzaal. Met tal van nieuwe composities brengt het trio o.l.v. Ehsan Yadollahi een totaal nieuw repertoire.
De groep brengt voornamelijk eigen composities die gebaseerd zijn op de Iraanse muziektraditie , waarin de vrije improvisatie een heel grote rol speelt.

Het optreden bestaat grofweg uit twee delen.
In het eerste deel staat vooral de complexe dialoog tussen de setar (langhalsluit) en de tombak (vaastrommel) centraal.
In het tweede deel ligt de nadruk vooral op de composities die gebaseerd zijn op de Perzische vroeg 20e eeuwse poëzie. Interessant is hierbij vooral het gebruik van de speciale zangstijl avaz, een onmisbaar en één van de meest markante elementen in de Iraanse klassieke traditionele muziek.

SAZ ensemble had already some performances on 2014-2015 in Gent, Belgium (de centrale, muziekantenhuis, mizrab) and now with new compositions we are going to offer you some original melodies from Iran. We are mostly working on free improvisation and our own compositions based on Iranian/world music. Therefore we invite some international musicians from time to time to work with us and make our music more colorful. With this composition we already had three performances in Leuven (2015), and Antwerp (2016).

The performance consists of two parts.

In the first part an improvisation of Setar and Tonbak will be presented. The dialogue between these two instruments is going to be created and narrated there at the concert to expose our real feelings of being at the moment of ‘now’.

In second part we present the compositions we worked on and prepared based on the early 20th century poetries. The main concept of the selected poem is about life and also the difficulties you may experience in following your dreams. We tried to find a good balance between the meaning of the poetry and rhythm together with melodies to express the most our emotions. In addition, special singing method in Persian called AVAZ (unmetered vocal section of a mode in Persian music) is involved to build the atmosphere for Iranian traditional music.
